Welcome to the Children’s Ministry
Jesus had this strange event happen in scripture (Matthew 19:13-15):
Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people, but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” And he laid his hands on them and went away.
Jesus shows us here that children should be valued and given time and attention, he even claimed that the kingdom belonged to them. And another scripture (Matthew 18:1-6):
At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.
Have you ever watched or studied children? They love to pretend, they ask lots of questions and they are very curious. Even though each child is different in what their likes and dislikes are, they are fun to be around. The Children’s Ministry is all about the children. We believe in planting the seeds of the word in them, taking the time to build the foundation that God loves them. With a growing curriculum in the children’s ministry, we are beginning to develop something that will really be great. One thing we are beginning to focus on is setting up a curriculum that allows the parents to get engaged at home with the kids. This means you can take home what the children are learning and use it as a family devotional one of the days of the week. Having a monthly memory scripture that allows them to begin to remember scripture at an early development level.
We want the children and the parents to be excited about class and to provide engaging material to help the family grow together in their knowledge of scripture and the practicals that help in every day life. The Children’s Ministry is also about participation, with a monthly rotation, everyone gets the opportunity to teach the kids. We believe at Fort Avenue that it takes a village to raise children.
Lets recap what we do the with the children:
- Bible Lessons
- A Monthly Memory Scripture
We hope that your family joins us and we look forward to having a chance to meet your children and participate in helping them grow into little disciples of Christ, the little lambs of Christ’s fold.
